Biblical Teaching: Divine Appointment I

This biblical teaching is a production of The Walk Ministries with Pastor Jeno Shaw. You can watch the video below, and then read the teaching notes that follow.

Overview

I’ve been having plumbers and drywall workers over to my house to fix and patch up the leak that was in the ceiling. I don’t use names because I’m pretty sure they want their privacy. The plumbers had mentioned that they had some furniture that we could have, so today they came by and dropped it off. What seemed like what should take about 30 mins ended up being hours as we sat and talked and prayed.

I ended up praying for the guy. He had a glass eye, and he told me the story of how his mom was spanking him with a belt, and the belt buckle hit his eye and caused permanent damage, so now he wears a glass eye. I prayed for his eye to come back and for Jesus to heal him. Nothing immediate happened, but my job is to pray and leave the rest to God.

We all sat at the dining room table, and my daughter was playing with some beads that had various colors and various letters. So I picked up three of them and just began to roll them around my hand as he spoke. The guy began to ask me why he keeps seeing 333 everywhere.

So I explained to him that God is always talking with us, and He can speak in many different ways. So I gave him scripture in Jeremiah:

Jeremiah 33:3
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

I told him, “The Lord wants you to call him and talk with him.” I told him again that the Lord is always speaking. We just have to look out for it. As I said that, I looked down in my hand and the beads I was playing with spelled out the name “her.” So I turned to the lady and asked, “Is there anything we can pray for you about?” She began to cry and said she’s been mourning the death of her father, son, and grandfather.

So my wife started praying for her and preaching, I might add! As she was ministering to her, I began to see in the spirit two legs that were tan and tan feet that had sandals. At first, I wanted to dismiss it because it made no sense to me whatsoever. I did say something though. I said, “I’m seeing tan legs and tan feet with sandals.” Immediately, she said, “I know what that is!” She said she’s been working a lot, and she hasnt had the time to go tan her legs and feet like she wants to, and it’s been something she wants to do. She told me that she has a turtle, and she was going to take a picture of it with the turtle at her feet, but she didn’t because her feet were not tan.

So I told her as little as that is, getting a tan, God is interested in the small things we do. If it’s important to you, then it’s important to God, simple as that. Yes, God cares about the little things!

A divine appointment can be:

  1. When you come across a person or circumstance that you realize has been set up by God
  2. An encounter  with God

Remember when Jacob was  running from his brother because Jacob stole his blessing? Jacob was just looking for a place to rest and this happened:

Genesis 28:11-13
11 “And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. (12) And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. (13) And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;”

Now, this is a divine appointment as well! Jacob was not expecting this meeting with God.

As we go throughout the day, we can have these divine appointments. Speaking of this, I had another one with my family and Annamarie while at lunch that I’ll probably discuss on Friday, July 29, on the broadcast.

Let us pray

Father God, I pray for more divine appointments with You and with situations that You set up. May these encounters enrich our faith and hope, and may they bring blessings to all those involved, in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

And by the way, I just knew that God was going to bless the plumber couple that blessed us that my wife and I explained about how we stepped out in faith in the Lord. God did not disappoint! The couple called us the next day — the very next day — to say that the house they were trying to sell had sold and for more than they were asking! C’mon, God!!!

I truly love you all,
